Parasites, H.Pylori, Coeliac? My Recommended Diet and Supplement Protocol for Optimum Gut Health
If you have ever experienced indigestion, you’ll know how uncomfortable and stress-inducing it can be. It can render you incapable of focusing on any other task, it can make you irritable and anxious to be around -- and this is only when it happens once in a while. Imagine if it happened every day after every meal?
Those who suffer from coeliac disease might be familiar with such extremes of indigestion. Even if you’re not coeliac, we’ve all experienced the discomfort, negative emotions and bad moods that can result from a period of indigestion. That’s why it came as no surprise to learn several recent studies have proven that gut-health has significant parallels to our mental state.
The Vagus Nerve Theory
The theory is that gut bacteria are intricately linked with our brain via the nervous system, spinal cord, hormones, and immune system. The ‘Vagus Nerve’ is the main communicator between these, and it transmits neurotransmitters from the base of the spine (which is conveniently located near the gut) to the brain. Vagus plays an important role in the transmission of immune information from gut to brain and also in homeostasis associated with the immune system.
The body is always trying to achieve balance. Being an upper cervical chiropractor, I am always working with the body to achieve balance. For many years, chiropractors have utilized x-ray to assess spinal alignment, perform biomechanic assessments and evaluate spinal structures to determine a subluxation. I use thermography in my office on every patient. Thermography is a means of measuring the heat (thermo) coming from a body. The science of Thermography is the application of these heat readings to locate abnormal pathology or function in the body. Socrates used to put wet mud on his clients and looked to see where it dried first, to look for inflammation in the body. Early in the history of Chiropractic medicine, doctors would use the back of their hands to locate “hot boxes” or look for locations of decreased heat along the spine.
In the 1930's, a chiropractic patient named Dossa Evans, who was an electrical engineer, asked his chiropractor if he'd be interested in a device to measure the temperature changes along the spine. His first instrument was named the Neurocalometer.
This device was used to compare the temperature on both sides of the spine. If one side was colder than the other, the needle would jump toward that side. Later, a graphing mechanism was attached to record those readings. This lead to the documentation of heat asymmetries and a system called “pattern analysis” in which the doctor takes a series of “graphs” on the first visit. I take one before I examine a new patient, a second one after the exam, and then a third one, just before the patient receives their first adjustment.
We expect a “normal graph” to look different each time since the body is always changing. When a cold spot(s) remains at the same spinal level through a series of graphs, we define that as an abnormal “pattern.” This suggests the body is not changing and that the body's thermostat is stuck. This analysis is one indication of spinal subluxation.
Today, there are more sophisticated, computer assisted instruments which take those readings, by measuring the infrared heat that radiates from our skin. I use a Tytron scanner in my office. This scanner compares the temperature from one side of the body to the other. It allows us to confirm that you have essentially the same blood supply to identical body parts (such as your right and left thumb), so the temperature should be virtually identical on both sides. A variance of more than 0.3° (three-tenths of one degree) is clinically significant. (Uematsu, 1988)
The brain controls all body functions, either through “hard wiring” (our nerves) or indirectly through release of hormones and neuro-transmitters. When there is interference in the nervous system from what we call a subluxation, the brain changes the way the body operates. This scanner helps me to determine if the patient has a subluxation and needs a spinal correction. (Photo Credit: Dr. Corinne Weaver)
Maintaining a clear thermography analysis in the upper cervical spine is a key to your Vagus health. In this picture both sides of the spine should be green. If both sides are green then this is a good sign of brain to body communication because the temperature is less than 0.3° (three-tenths of one degree).
The more I do blood work and stool analysis, the more I find many people suffer with gut issues and bad bugs like bacteria, viruses, yeast, and parasites. If your immune system is not heathy in the gut the bad guys take over and cause dis-ease in the body.
Here’s one of my favorite gut repair diet toolkits
10-day Gut Repair Tool Kit:
Eat only lean, organic meat and organic vegetables for 10 days. During this 10-day program, eat MONO MEALS by eating only one food at a time. That means each time you eat, you are only eating one type of food. For example, you eat only eggs for breakfast, green beans for a mid-morning snack, grass-fed steak for lunch, asparagus for an afternoon snack, and grilled salmon for dinner. Do this for the entire 10 days. Don’t be surprised if you experience some healthy weight loss on this program also!
NOTE: Avoid starches, fruit, sugar, breads, cereals, etc. as these foods are fuel for the bacteria/fungi/parasites you are trying to eliminate from your body.
Recommended Supplement Protocol for the First 10 Days:
Metagest – (need one 270 tablet bottle) HCl stomach acid that will support the digestion and break down of your food. Take this product right at the end of the meal. NOTE: If pain or discomfort occurs when taking Metagest, it indicates inflammation of the lining of the stomach and esophagus. To heal the stomach and esophagus, use the Gastritis Repair Protocol below for at least 4 weeks before trying to reintroduce the Metagest.
Pan 9X– (need one 90 tablet bottle) pancreatic enzymes that will help you break down your food. Take 2 five minutes before meals/shakes/snacks. Will improve digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Acute Care – 2 capsules 3x day w/ food (need two 30 capsule bottles). S. boulardii is a species of bacteria that helps remove toxic yeast and fungus from sticking to the walls of the GI tract. Once removed from the wall, your body can easily eliminate the pathogen in the stool
Integrity – 1 capsule at night with food (need one 30 capsule bottle). Features 100 million CFU of patented probiotic strain Lactobacillus salivarius UCC118, which preclinical studies suggest may influence tight junctions between intestinal cells and may beneficially influence immune cell signaling processes.
Candibactin AR – 2 capsules 3x day w/ food (need one 60 capsule bottle). Aromatic oils which work as well as gold standard antibiotics at killing bad bugs yet has no negative side effect. Cleanses the bowel of bacteria/viruses/yeast/parasites.
Candibactin BR – 3 tablets 3x day w/ food (need one 90 tablet bottle). Oils of berberine which work also as a cleanse for the GI tract killing more bacteria/viruses/yeast/parasites.
Vitamin D3 10000 w/ K2 – one capsule per day with food (need one 120 capsule bottle).
GI Replenish - 1 scoop morning and 1 scoop at night. Helps to seal a leaky gut by allowing the epithelial cells to grow faster and healthier, reducing inflammation and increasing glutathione.
Recommended Diet and Supplement Protocol for after the 10 Days:
I recommend that my patients with gut dysbiosis issues use the nutrition listed above for 10 days. After the 10 days has been completed, I also recommend a follow-through period for at least 3 weeks. There is no need to continue eating in a MONO MEAL fashion and food may now be combined to your liking. I recommended doing a CBC with diff blood panel to check how your body is responding after 10 days.
During the next 3-month period continue to take the exact supplements above, only reduce the in the following manner:
reduce the Candibactin AR to 1 3x day with food
reduce the Candibactin BR to 2 2x day with food
reduce the GI replenish powder to 1 scoop per day
reduce the Acute Care to 1 3x day with food
Continue to take the Spectrazyme Pan 9X ES, Spectrazyme Metagest, Integrity, and D3 10,000 w/ K2 as stated above.

Gastritis and Ulcer Repair Protocol (only if you can’t tolerate Metagest)
This protocol is for those individuals who have active gastritis, who cannot tolerate stomach acid supplements, or who are healing from an H.Pylori infection. The below protocol should be taken for at least 4 weeks. After one month, the dosages may be reduced and the supplements can be taken long term for ongoing support.
Glutagenics– mix 1 serving into water every 2 hours or after each meal, whichever comes first. Powerful support that will help reduce inflammation of the upper GI tract. Acts as a calming salve to relieve burning pain associated with gastritis and inflammation of the mucosa.
Endefen– 1 serving 2x day with or without meals. Provides key nutrients to support the health of the esophageal and stomach lining.
Zinlori 75– 2 tablets 2x per day away from food. Zinc-carnosine will enhance the repair of the stomach lining; used in Japan for decades to repair gastric mucosa after antibiotic therapy.
Many will “feel” better within a week and this is because you kill the “adults” off and feel great. However, this doesn’t mean you eliminated the eggs that will hatch. The average “growing” time from egg to adult of most parasites in around 3 months. Keep with the regime for at least 4 months to see lasting results.
After Four Month Protocol initiate this “One Year Protocol”
The first 3 days of each Month for one year:
Candibactin AR to 2 3x day with food
Candibactin BR to 2 3x day with food
Acute Care 1 3x day with food
Integrity 1 at night with food
